Knitting for beginners

Start your knitting journey with this fun, cosy class.

In this beginners knitting class in Ross-on-Wye, you will learn all the basic skills you need to start your knitting journey.This class is a solid foundation for anyone looking to explore knitting, a craft celebrated for its soothing qualities and support of brain health, as well as all the beautiful things you can create with it.You will learn:

How to cast on
How to knit
How to purl
How to cast off
How to combine knit and purl to create stitches such as moss, garter, and stockinette
How to block your work (a technique where you wet and shape your knitting for a tidier finish)

We will also discuss the pros and cons of different fibres (wool, acrylic, alpaca, etc.), fibre weights, and needle sizes.

Knitting in the round

Take your skills to the next level in this colourwork knitting workshop.

If you've been wanting to take your knitting to the next level and learn the fundamental techniques of knitting in the round and knitting fun colourwork patterns, then look no further -- this is the class for you! If you can knit, purl, cast on, and bind off, you are ready to go!You will learn:

How to cast on to double-point needles and join in the round.
How to knit ribbing and stockinette stitch in the round.
How to read and use colourwork motifs in your knitting, using 2-3 different colours.
Choosing the best colour combinations to make your motifs pop.
How to bind off in the round.

You will leave the class with 1-2 cute colourwork coffee cozies/wrist warmers to keep or give as gifts and the basic skills you need to try the projects you've been intimidated by in the past, like socks, mittens, and gloves, all without the need for seaming!There will be lots of deliciously coloured yarn to choose from and a wide selection of fun, whimsical motif designs including Halloween, Nature, Music, Christmas, and many more. Double-point needles will be provided for the duration of the class, but if you just can't get enough and would like to continue knitting as soon as you get home, they can be purchased after the class for £5.

Pet Portrait Embroidery

Learn the art of embroidery and celebrate a beloved pet.

During this pet portrait embroidery class, you will learn the calming craft of embroidery and treat a beloved pet as your muse, leaving the class with a gorgeous portrait for yourself or as a gift for a loved one.You don't need any prior experience, just a love of pets and an eagerness to try a new craft.What you'll learn:

How to create a bold, clear outline of your pet.
How to transfer that design to your fabric.
How to create beautiful, clean lines using a variety of outline stitches.
How to embellish your work with a number of nature-inspired stitches.
How to frame your artwork using your hoop (this is called hoopla!)

If you're looking for a soothing and meditative craft to get you through the winter, I can't recommend anything better than embroidery, and this class will set you up with the basic skills to start you on your embroidery journey.

Enamelling workshop

Come and create 1 piece of enamel work, this will be either a pendant or a small picture. Everything is finished ready to take home that day and no previous experience is required. All tools and meterials are provided.

Lino Cutting worshops

Weave a sample or placemat and print a lino cut card.

Spend a day learning two crafts. Create a small woven sample, a size of a placemat, option to hem stitch finish. Print a small lino cut card.

The day will be split into two, whilst half the group weaves, the other half will be lino cutting, after a lunch break, groups will swap.

All materials included, no previous experience required. Option to have lunch.

Tea/Coffee and biscuits provided.

10am to 3pm

Each workshop will be two hours with approx a 1 hour lunch break in between.

Weaving workshop

Spend 3-4 Hours at the loom.

The perfect way to settle in and spend some time weaving.

The loom will be set up ready for you to start weaving with a choice of weft colours.

During 3-4 hours you could achieve enough fabric to either have a selection of sample, placemats finished with a hem stitch, or a panel to take home and make your own cushion cover.

Weaving workshop

A set of six two hour weekly workshops.

A relaxed way to learn to weave and a great option if you have a project in mind and want to do little and often.

You can achieve at least a cushion cover, lampshade, set of placemats or a scarf during this six week workshops.

Or you can use the workshops to design and make your own warp, wind it onto the loom and weave.

2 hours, day time or evening. Depending on loom availability there is an option to do with a friend or two.

All weaving material provided.

Learn to weave, explore your creativity and make something of your own.

The possibilities in weaving are endless so I wanted to offer an option where you can tell me what you want to get out of the workshop.

Whether you're completely new to weaving or already have some experience, these relaxed, one-to-one workshops are tailored to you and what you'd like to achieve.

We'll work together on a table loom, exploring the techniques and processes that interest you. You might want to learn the basics, experiment with colour and texture, design your own cloth, or work towards creating a finished piece.
